Mentor Responsibilities

Mentor responsibilities shall include supporting Members in their exploration, interest, and/or knowledge of STE(A)M programming, as well as contributing to a welcoming and warm environment where Members feel empowered, supported, connected, and inspired. Mentors understand and acknowledge that all Mentor activities may require Mentors to interact with Clubhouse staff, Members, and Clubhouse equipment and materials; travel to the Clubhouse or other locations; sit for extended periods of time; and stand for extended periods of time. Mentors further understand and acknowledge that they will not be compensated for any time spent volunteering or performing the Mentor activities, nor will Mentors be entitled to any employment or other benefits, including without limitation, employment insurance benefits upon the termination of this agreement or as a result of this service.

Attendance

All Mentors are required to commit to 2 hours on a predetermined day for a minimum of 6 months. If you are unable to complete your 6-month agreement, you will inform the Clubhouse Coordinator immediately so successful closure can be arranged with Members. All Mentors commit to attending six (3) Engagement events and/or Training within their volunteer period. Mentors are expected to come in when scheduled. If a Mentor knows s/he will be unable to attend a Clubhouse session for which s/he is scheduled, s/he should let the Clubhouse Coordinator know at least 24 hours in advance. If there is an unforeseen circumstance that keeps a Mentor from attending, the Mentor should contact the Clubhouse Coordinator at the earliest convenience.

The Clubhouse Mentor/Member Relationships

Clubhouse Mentors are encouraged to take a personal and professional interest in Clubhouse Members with whom they work. Clubhouse Mentors will only engage with Clubhouse Members at the Clubhouse, unless otherwise approved or arranged by the Clubhouse Coordinator. Clubhouse Mentors are prohibited from meeting with any Clubhouse Members in non-public places without Clubhouse staff. All arrangements outside of the Clubhouse must be pre-arranged and approved by the Clubhouse Coordinator. Mentors are not in charge of behavior management or discipline. If an issue arises, report it to a Staff member.

Alcoholic Beverages. No Mentor of The Clubhouse will possess or consume beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverages while actively engaged or prior to actively engaging in mentoring, nor shall any participant endorse the use of alcohol.

Drugs. No participant of The Clubhouse Mentor Program will manufacture, possess, distribute, or use any illegal substance while engaged in mentoring.

Tobacco. Smoking and the use of all tobacco products is prohibited on the premises of The Clubhouse. All Mentors must refrain from the use of such products while engaged at The Clubhouse. The use of tobacco products includes but is not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, or other matters or substances that contain tobacco.

Weapons, Firearms, and Other Dangerous Materials. The possession or use of firearms, firecrackers, explosives, toxic or dangerous chemicals, or other lethal weapons, equipment, or material while participating in mentoring activities is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this policy will result in the immediate suspension and/or termination of the mentoring relationship. In addition, violations of this policy may result in notification being given to legal authorities that may result in arrest or legal action and may be punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.

Dismissals

The following constitute immediate grounds for dismissal as a Mentor to the Clubhouse. Once dismissed, a Mentor will be ineligible to re-apply for any position at The Clubhouse whether on a paid or voluntary basis:

  • Any act of violence or threats of violence against another person and/or their property.
  • Drug or alcohol use or display while volunteering.
  • Indecorous sexual behavior at the Clubhouse (including sexual advances, inappropriatematerials, inappropriate displays of affection, etc.)
  • Two or more absences from scheduled mentor sessions without notifying the Clubhouse manager.

Mentors may be removed from their position at any time during their volunteer period at the discretion of Clubhouse staff.
